Yes, it sounds strange - Supreme Ruler 2020: Gold Edition has “Gone Gold”, meaning of course that it is completed and going out to production. It is due to hit the streets on September 15th 2009.
We’re very pleased that the SR2020 game gets one more chance at retail, for those who may have missed it the first time. This is a very nice package - a combination of the original SR2020 with the Global Crisis expansion, topped off with some new added content and game engine improvements. Our release of SR2020 last year raised a number of issues, oft-discussed in our forums, of “why didn’t you do/add/change/fix this” versus the “we could work on it forever and then you’d never get to play it” points of view. To some extent both sides of that debate are right, and wrong, at the same time.
The original SR2020 was a game with a scope and depth beyond most anything else out there, and it was also a solid and stable release. But features that some players saw as important - for example AI aggression using naval invasions, or more sophisticated diplomatic trading options, were missing. We’ve added those features (and many, many more) as part of our free Updates, and combined with the new elements of the Global Crisis expansion, I believe we’ve met and exceeded what the majority of players of this type of game are looking for.
Of course there are still weaknesses (such as a boring tutorial), but all of us at BattleGoat are very proud of what the Gold Edition represents, and hope that even more strategy gamers are introduced to the world of Supreme Ruler. Of course, for players that have already purchased SR2020 and the Global Crisis expansion, we will be “pushing back” the new features and content as part of our planned free Update 6 at the end of September.
